The Hannibal-LaGrange Men’s Soccer Team concluded its season last week with a 1-0 loss to Harris-Stowe State in the American Midwest Conference Tournament Semifinals.

A very tight contest that went all the way down to the wire. The game was 0-0 up until the 84 minute mark when Harris-Stowe’s Allessandro Urlati found the back of net to score the goal that six minutes later would end HLG’s season.

The Trojans finish out the season with a 7-9-1 overall record, 2-5-1 in conference play, and came in seventh place in the American Midwest Conference standings.

Three Trojans, Benjamin Contreras, Jaume Garcia, and Mason McQueen, finished tied for the team lead in scoring with six goals a piece. McQueen also led the team in assists with seven and overall points with 19. McQueen played in all 17 games this season and started all but one of them.

Sophomore goalkeeper Alvaro Rueda led the team with 55 saves while averaging just under two goals allowed per game.

As a team, the Trojans finished the season with 28 goals scored off 213 shots for a shot percentage of .131.

As the team moves into the offseason and looks ahead to next year, head coach David Erskine says, “I thank the seniors for their time and dedication to the team and wish them the best.”
