Last Saturday, the Hannibal-LaGrange Trojans played their homecoming soccer game against the Williams Baptist University Eagles. At the start, the Trojans were able to get off to a quick 1-0 lead with a header from Martin Gutierrez. The Trojans were then able to extend their lead in the 2nd half after scoring off of a penalty kick from Mason McQueen. Then the game got very intense with 8 yellow cards given, and two of Williams Baptist’s players got red cards, thus ejected from the game. After that, Williams Baptist went on to score two goals in a four minute span, both goals came from Thayrone Cazeca.
With the game tied at 2-2, both teams were fighting hard to gain the advantage. However, nature had a different twist for both teams, and with less than 14 minutes left in the game, lightning strikes caused the game to be delayed. After multiple delays, the game was eventually ruled a tie.
This was a critical game for the Trojans, and the tie leaves them 0-1-1 in the AMC Conference.
