Almost a month after her husband and daughter died in a helicopter crash, Vanessa Bryant has decided to sue the pilot of the helicopter. She filed this wrongful death suit on the same day that a memorial service was being held for Kobe and Gianna. Since the pilot also died in the crash, the company that owned the helicopter is responsible for replacing him.
According to multiple reports, this is not the first time that the helicopter company Island Express has been in trouble for violations. They have had several accidents prior to the one that killed Kobe, Gianna, and seven others. The company allowed the pilot to fly even though he had several violations against him. He was known for flying in unsafe conditions.
While the details of the lawsuit are vague, two of the items that Island Express is being sued with are inadequate training and not having a safety system installed on the helicopter. The safety system would have gone off to let everyone know that they were close to crashing.
This lawsuit could take awhile to come to a conclusion due to the investigation report taking up to two years to be completed. It is likely that the victims’ families will receive some money out of the suit and that Bryant is making this move to protect others.
