Hannibal-LaGrange University has tipped off its 2019-20 campaign. The men’s and women’s teams have been struggling to find their grooves to start the season. Both teams have many new faces on the roster to help contribute. Here’s a look…
Lady Trojan Basketball (2-5, 0-2 AMC)
Kelly Quigle and the Trojan basketball team struggled a year ago to find wins. The team only won 3 games a season ago, the 2019 squad is already closing in on that number. Hannibal has taken down down Central Christian College and MacMurray College in the early going. Emma Anderson is leading the team in points per game at 11. Junior guard, Rhiannon Runyon is right behind her scoring 7 per contest. Point guard, Jenna Syers, is leading the team in assists per competition with 2.4. The Lady Trojans are up against tough competition in the AMC and will look to keep improving.
Men’s Basketball (1-4, 0-2 AMC)
Jason Durst and the HLGU basketball team has added some new faces to the roster this season. Three key transfers include Wyatt Ward, Eric Easter, and Trey Jefferson. After coming off the best season in program history, the Trojans aren’t looking in the past but only the future. Hannibal has dropped its first two American Midwest conference matchups this season. A win that won’t show up on the schedule is an exhibition matchup against NCAA DII, Maryville. The Trojans went on the road and took down the Saints. Ryan Ward is leading the team in points per game with 13.4. He also leads the team in rebounds per contest with 5.2. Sophomore Guard leads the team in both assists per game and steal per game. Hannibal will look to find their groove in the AMC and make a run at the conference tournament.
