HLGU has partnered with English Professor and 5th District State Representative Louis Riggs to create an internship opportunity for students of the university.
The internship will consist of 12 credit hours and the students will be in Jefferson City 4 days each week. Requirements are a 2.5 GPA and that the student is either a junior or a senior. Students will get to learn about the inner workings of the state legislature from first-hand experience, build important connections with state party leaders, as well as building a robust resume.
Representative Riggs added that “Interns have the opportunity to experience every aspect of the legislative process, from bill drafting to meeting with constituents and lobbyists to working with committees and assisting with preparation of amendments to be offered on the floor during House debates. House Interns also have the opportunity to experience intern-only activities, such as tours of the Capitol that the general public never sees, trips to the Governor’s Mansion and SEMA Headquarters to see how emergency management operates.”
Riggs also added that he is currently working on housing opportunities for interns in Jefferson City for this spring. Spots will be limited to 4 or 5 students so interested parties should inquire about this opportunity as soon as possible. For more information, please send an email to Rep. Riggs at email@example.com.
