Big River Steampunk Festival in Downtown Hannibal

If you were at downtown Hannibal on Labor Day weekend you might have found yourself in the middle of the 6th annual Big River Steampunk Festival.

The term steampunk comes from the Victorian Era with the creation of the steam engine and a creative movement. People from all over the country came to participate in this event, and attendance hit around 10,000 people. People walked around dressed like they came right out of the 16th century, and there were even authentic steampunk vendors there.

The event was put on by Ken and Lisa Marks of the Hannibal History Museum, and a percent of the proceeds went to benefit the Museum.

The festival has quickly grown to be one of the biggest steampunk tributes in this country.
