Trojans are preparing for regular season play to close and for the postseason to begin. Lady Trojan Softball and men’s baseball have competed in many competitions thus far. Let’s take a look at the most recent HLGU athletic accomplishments.
The Hannibal-LaGrange Lady Trojans softball team is quietly having much success on the softball diamond in 2019. A record of 20-18 and 10-10 in the AMC standings has the Trojans sitting in the 10th place spot in the standings. The team has played well as of late competing with high quality opponents. HLGU recently fell to the RV (receiving votes) Columbia College Cougars in 9 innings, 6-5. The team is having an impressive year at the plate with 250 total team hits. The Trojans have plated 128 runs in their total 36 games, which comes out to average 3.5 runs per game. Trojan pitchers have accumulated an overall ERA of just 3.45 with a record of 18-18 on the mound. The Lady Trojans have one last home series left. Crowley’s Ridge College was scheduled to come to Hannibal on Monday, April 15th, senior day for the Lady Trojans, but the game was postponed due to rain. The Trojans baseball team finally opened their season at home against No. 17 Lyon College. The Trojans found a way to take 1 game of 3 against the powerhouse Scots. Justin French earned the win on the mound. Chet Merrit contributed at the plate with a monster home run over the left field fence. As a team the Trojans are hitting .283 at the plate with a total of 341 hits and 191 plated runs. HLGU is averaging 8.5 hits per game and scoring 4.1 runs per game as well. The very competitive AMC conference has the Trojans sitting at 14-26 overall and 6-21 in conference play. The Trojans goal is to keep competing at the highest level they can and make the NCCAA tournament. HLGU Trojans baseball were at home for the second time of the season April 17th, and split a double header against the Culver Stockton Wildcats. The Trojans will compete at Mo Bap Friday and Saturday.
