On February 16th, the HLGU Trojans traveled to Lindenwood University-Bellville to compete for the 3rd annual American Midwest Conference Wrestling Championship. HLGU finished sixth in the tournament this year. Two seniors qualified to go to the national tournament on March 2-3.
Jeremiah Reed finished in second at the tournament in the 174 weight class. His record for the tournament was 2-1 after wrestling Chase Larson from Lindenwood Bellville-University. He would then win the semifinals match against Ryan Whittle of Missouri Baptist. He was then pinned in 4:15 in the championship round against Keion McVay from WBC.
Nigel Burnett was the other qualifier for the Trojans to go to nationals. His record for the tournament was 2-2. His first match of the day ended with a loss and moved him into the consolation bracket and pushing him to fight his way back to the top. His next match against John Bentley ended with a pin for Burnett in 40 seconds. He battled for his next victory against Ethan Bunce of Lyon College. He then lost by a decision of 2-1 in his last match of the day. He was picked as a wildcard bid to go to nationals.
